CCC#3 Challenge 15 Cabinet Cards

I don't know where the time is going or necessarily gone! Wow,
it is already approaching mid November! I have to say the California
weather is making it hard to appreciate the forthcoming holidays! So
here we are going into challenge #15 Cabinet Cards which can be found
in Tim's new book Curiosity of Compodium #3 on page 38. Anyone
can still join in! The buzz is: the stash for this challenge is quite the haul!
Thank you to Tim and Mario for the grand prize!!!

Thank to the ladies of the CCCrew and to Linda Ledbetter for hosting
the challenges. The sponsor for this challenge is www.inspirationemporium.com.
They are offering a $50 dollar certificate to the store. Here is the link to
Linda's blog if you wish to join in www.lindaledbetter.com. When I started
this challenge I was undecided about which picture to use: Mom or Dad?
I ended up using Dads photo. I wanted to pay tribute to my father as much
as I did my Mother. But I had used my mom in a previous challenge, her photo
that is!  On the backside of the canvas I did the décor with Tim's Paper Stash-
Destinations. I added Words Remnant Rub ons by Tim. The Pan Am logo
I found online and added into the mix for significance.

So I honor his history with the elements that surrounds his cabinet card.
My father was an Air Crafts Mechanic & Supervisor. My father worked
on C1 and C5's, which are huge military cargo planes.
As a kid I remember going inside of the hull and feeling the enormity and
it was massive! Overwhelming really. What I admired about my dad were his
tales of his time in New York City when he drove back there for Air Craft Mechanics
training through Pan Am back in the day. He had been attending college at Cal Poly
when recruiters came on campus from Pan Am.  It obviously
spoke to him. I enclosed on the back of his burlap panel small duplicate pictures which
are actually from his days in New York City, Wake Island and family.
My father did his years at service working at Travis Air Force as a government
worker servicing their planes.

He would also later spend 6months on Wake Island furthering his training.
I love this album he managed to keep all these years later.
My dad is now 92. He suffered a life altering stroke about 12 years ago.
So I do this in honor of him.  My pops favorite color is green so I incorporated Distress
Peeled Paint around the borders of the canvas.
I also altered the back of the canvas using Tim
Holtz Destinations papers, and burnt the border of the edges of the canvas, as well
as around the paper embellishments on the front.
I thought the gear on the plane ticket looked like a propeller!
I made two small fold outs to hold 2 x 3 pictures of my Dad from when he was
small to his travel pictures from NY, to Wake Island.
I also enclosed two with his mom, and then with mom & sister.

Elements Used:
One Tim Holtz 4 x 6 Burlap Canvas, Tim Holtz Cabinet Cart,
Art Extravagance Texture Paste, Tim Holtz Paper Stash Destinations papers,
Distress Paint Peeled Paint, Remnant Rubs Words, Tim Holtz Distress Spray
Rusty Hinge & Antique Linen, Tim Holtz Monocles,
Thrift Shop Vellum Ephemera Pack, 2 x 3 pictures of my fathers time in New York,
Tim Holtz Gears, Heart, Clasp, Metal embellishment, Industrious Stickers
Frames & Trim, I hand cut the paper embellishment from Destination papers,
Hot Air Balloon Stick Pen, Alcohol Inks on gears, Tim Holtz Adornments.

  2. Jan...this is such an awesome canvas paying tribute to your dad. So many memories and memorabilia collaged onto this! Your use of Tim's cabinet card on the back/front of the canvas is wonderful. I so love all of the other elements you've collaged around it. The metal pieces, the ephemera, the dangling charm, it all tells that wonderful story of your dad from Cal Poly to his long distinguished career with the airlines. I know he would love this. Thanks for sharing your art with all of us at CC3C. <3 Candy
